Romania has declared a 'crisis situation' in its electricity sector due to drought and low river flows, activating the 'early warning' mechanism. Energy Minister Cristian Bușoi informed the European Commission about the potential controlled shutdown of Cernavodă Unit 2 and requested regional assessments of production capacities and support from neighboring countries. He emphasized the need for emergency assistance mechanisms and discussions on the closure of coal capacities, particularly regarding the Turceni 5 unit. The European Commission is closely monitoring the situation, which is complicated by low water levels affecting hydro production and nuclear operations.
