Romania led the EU in environmental tax increases on energy products in 2024, impacting energy prices and national competitiveness. Environmental tax revenues in the EU rose by 6.1%, totaling €371.9 billion, with Romania seeing the highest growth at 21.7%. Despite this increase, the share of environmental taxes in the EU's GDP decreased from 2.5% in 2014 to 2.1% in 2024.
