Romania has exceeded its target for digitalized ecological islands, completing 5,091 installations across 36 counties, with an investment of 72.75 million euros. These systems will manage and collect various types of waste separately, contributing to waste management infrastructure modernization. The Minister of Environment emphasized the importance of collaboration among authorities, the private sector, and citizens for a cleaner environment. Eligible beneficiaries included local administrative units and intercommunity development associations. The installations feature different types of recycling systems, including above-ground and underground containers, particularly effective in urban and tourist areas.
