Romania has activated the energy crisis mechanism and requested the EU to allow the Turceni power plant to operate beyond the closure deadline. Secretary of State Cristian Bușoi discussed the situation at a European meeting, highlighting the imminent shutdown of Cernavodă Unit 2 and legislative measures taken by the Romanian government. He called for an updated regional assessment from the European Commission regarding production capacities and cross-border support. Bușoi emphasized the need for emergency assistance discussions and a bilateral technical meeting to explore available EU mechanisms. He also addressed the challenges of closing the Turceni plant, urging for continued operation of certain units beyond August.
