Romanian authorities are investigating individuals accused of attempting to send a military-use industrial machine to Belarus, valued at over 1.7 million euros. DIICOT conducted 12 searches in Bucharest and three counties, targeting those involved in the illegal transfer of dual-use equipment. The machine, a VL40 vertical lathe, could be modified for military purposes. Investigators found evidence of efforts to disguise the final recipient and bypass export controls, including attempts to obtain export licenses despite rejections. Eight suspects are facing criminal charges and have been taken in for questioning.
