Risc de dezvoltare a unor tumori asociat utilizării pe termen lung a unui contraceptiv, avertizează agenţia franceză pentru medicamente

The French Medicines Agency (ANSM) will send personalized letters to 1.6 million women regarding a rare risk of meningioma linked to long-term use of desogestrel. This initiative, starting September 14, also targets over 90,000 healthcare professionals and is based on a study analyzing data from women operated on for meningioma. While no increased risk was found with levonorgestrel, a small but significant increase was noted in women over 45 using desogestrel long-term. The agency advises consulting a doctor for neurological symptoms and notes that the epidemiological risk diminishes about a year after stopping desogestrel treatment.
