German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall is expanding its facility near Munich to double explosive powder production in response to rising European defense demands. The 'Project Firepower' aims to make the Aschau am Inn site one of Europe's largest ammunition powder factories. Increased defense investments post-Russia's invasion of Ukraine have highlighted production capacity vulnerabilities, particularly in explosive powder. Rheinmetall has secured its supply chain and plans to boost annual production to 4,200 metric tons by 2028. The company also invests in modernization across its facilities in Spain and Switzerland, addressing the high demand for ammunition.
