Revoluție în diagnosticul infarctului la femei după decenii de subdiagnosticare. Noua clasificare care poate schimba tratamentul
A new universal definition of myocardial infarction has been established, aiming to improve diagnosis and treatment for women, who have historically been underdiagnosed. This change, agreed upon by major cardiology organizations, introduces a simplified classification system that focuses on the specific mechanisms affecting women, such as spontaneous coronary artery dissection and coronary embolism. The new categories—primary, secondary, and procedure-associated infarcts—allow for better identification and management of these conditions. Additionally, sex-specific troponin reference thresholds will enhance diagnostic accuracy. This reform is expected to significantly impact women's healthcare globally, addressing long-standing disparities in treatment and outcomes.
