Drought and high temperatures are severely impacting corn production in Central and Eastern Europe, particularly in Romania and Hungary. Farmers are facing recurring droughts, leading to significant reductions in cultivated areas and yields. The EU's corn harvest is projected to be the lowest in nearly two decades, with Romania's output at about 8 million tons and Hungary's at 2.5 million tons. Export levels have also dropped significantly, forcing Hungary to import corn this year. Climate change is a major factor driving these changes, pushing farmers to shift to autumn crops, especially affecting smallholders.
