Human Rights Watch reports that Facebook and TikTok fail to prevent armed groups in Colombia from recruiting minors through social media. The organization highlights the alarming rise in child recruitment, with at least 1,500 minors affected since 2021. Armed groups use social media to glorify their lifestyle and offer false job opportunities, targeting vulnerable youth, particularly from indigenous communities. Despite efforts from Meta and ByteDance to remove such content, the issue persists, with dissident factions of FARC responsible for a significant portion of the recruitment. The Colombian government is currently intensifying military actions against these groups.
