New legislation proposes restrictions for novice drivers, limiting their vehicles to 102 horsepower for the first two years after obtaining a license. This aims to reduce accident rates among inexperienced drivers, who are statistically more likely to be involved in serious incidents. The proposed limit translates to about 120-130 horsepower for cars weighing 1.3-1.5 tons. Similar restrictions have been in place for motorcycles since 2013, requiring progressive access based on age and experience. Violators of this new law could face fines up to 4,000 lei and possible suspension of their driving license.
