Republica Moldova se reorganizează teritorial
The Prime Minister of Moldova, Vasile Tofan, has proposed a public debate on the administrative-territorial reorganization of the country, suggesting a reduction from 32 districts to 3 regions. This reform aims to empower local authorities by replacing district councils with regional councils that can better address local needs. Tofan emphasized the importance of strong local governance, allowing mayors to effectively manage community services. The proposal includes maintaining the current status of Chisinau, Balti, and Gagauzia, while Taraclia will become a municipality. Citizens will elect regional councilors in the 2027 local elections, who will then choose the regional leadership. The government will finalize the legislative proposal soon.
