Republica Moldova renunță la sistemul administrativ moștenit din perioada sovietică. Cele 32 de raioane vor fi înlocuite cu trei regiuni

Moldova plans to reorganize its administrative structure by replacing the current 32 districts with three regions: North, Central, and South, along with Taraclia as a municipality. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan announced the project, emphasizing regional development and cooperation among local authorities. The new regions will have Bălți, Chișinău, and Cahul as their capitals. Tofan stated that the reform aims to reduce bureaucracy and enhance efficiency, with local governments gaining more responsibilities and resources. The legislative package for this reform is expected to be presented to Parliament in the fall of 2026.
