Drivers who fail to pay traffic fines within 90 days risk losing their driving rights under a new mechanism starting August 25. The suspension duration is based on the unpaid amount, with one day of suspension for every 50 lei owed. Local tax authorities will calculate the suspension period after the 90-day payment window closes. A payment reminder will be issued before suspension, detailing the fine amount and suspension dates. If fines are paid after suspension begins, the local authority must update the system to restore driving rights. This mechanism applies to Romanian license holders and is distinct from previous regulations.
