In 2025, only 53.3% of the North-East region's population had access to public water supply, while Bucharest-Ilfov had nearly full coverage. Nationally, 78.2% of residents were connected, an increase from 77.6% in 2024. The total number of people connected rose to 14,887,537, with significant regional disparities. The highest connection rate was in Bucharest-Ilfov at 98.3%, followed by South-East at 89.9%. In contrast, North-East had the lowest connection rate, with almost half of its population unconnected. Additionally, total water distribution in Romania decreased by 14.5% in 2025, primarily due to reduced agricultural and industrial needs, although water supplied to the population increased by 75.969 million cubic meters.
