The European Commission has announced the implementation of a new customs reform aimed at modernizing the EU's customs system. This reform, effective from September 21, 2026, will enhance digitalization and data-driven processes, addressing challenges in international trade. Key components include the modernization of the Customs Code and the establishment of the EU Customs Authority (EUCA) to improve cooperation among member states. The reform simplifies customs procedures, clarifies responsibilities for importers, and introduces a single entry point for customs operations. The EU Customs Authority will begin operations in 2027, with a new data platform for e-commerce expected by July 2028.
