Marine biologists attribute this situation to multiple interconnected factors, primarily the impact of the Ukraine conflict, which disrupts dolphin echolocation. Increased coastal traffic and changes in fishing practices also contribute to the deaths. Pathological and environmental factors, including advanced fungal infections, have been identified in autopsies. Researchers are closely monitoring the Black Sea coasts to better understand this phenomenon and its risks to marine life.
