A 55-year-old woman gave birth to a baby boy at the Elena Doamna Hospital, marking a record for the region of Moldova. The baby was born slightly premature but is doing well. Previously, the oldest mother in the area was 53 years old. Fertility expert Mircea Onofriescu noted that chances of natural conception decrease significantly after 45, leading many older women to use donor eggs and IVF. Adriana Iliescu remains the oldest mother in Romania, having given birth at 66.
