This year, over 800 kilograms of expired or unused medications have been collected at the Miercurea-Ciuc Emergency County Hospital, surpassing the amount from 2025. The local population has become accustomed to utilizing this collection service regularly. Initially, some items not classified as medical waste were brought, but this is no longer the case. Collected medications are sorted and then transported for proper disposal by an authorized company at the hospital's expense. The hospital emphasizes that expired medications should not be discarded with regular waste due to environmental and health risks, as active substances can contaminate soil and drinking water.
