He emphasized that while house arrest is still an abuse, it reflects the impact of protests at the Central Arrest. Georgescu had requested a milder preventive measure, which the court reviewed on October 12, postponing the decision to the next day. The judge had previously denied a preventive arrest request from DIICOT, placing Georgescu under judicial control instead. Supporters protested nightly at the Central Arrest, claiming he was a victim of political persecution. Georgescu is under investigation for forming an organized criminal group and fraud involving 1.1 million euros.
