Romanian sailors can now achieve officer positions faster due to a new decree reducing the minimum sea service from 24 to 12 months. This change, announced by interim Defense Minister Radu Miruță, aligns local regulations with international STCW standards. The decision aims to eliminate an additional requirement that previously disadvantaged Romanian navigators compared to their international counterparts. Miruță emphasized that the quality of training remains unchanged, and the adjustment was prompted by feedback from an officer highlighting the issue. He acknowledged the contributions of various stakeholders in facilitating this change.
