A new type of radar has been introduced in Romania, with educational radars installed in about 150 localities to encourage speed limit compliance without fines. These radars display a smiling face for drivers adhering to speed limits and a frowning face for those exceeding them. The initiative, costing approximately 18 million lei, is part of a project by the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR). Additionally, 400 video cameras with radar capabilities will be installed to monitor traffic more strictly, with an estimated cost of 82.05 million lei. These cameras will measure vehicle speed and check registration compliance, although they are not yet operational as fixed radars.
