PSD amendment allowing new hires in hospitals adopted by the health committee

Former Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete highlights a paradox in Romania's healthcare: 2,000 newly certified doctors are unemployed despite a staff shortage. He emphasizes that a hiring freeze has hindered their employment, even as interest in medical careers remains high. The Health Committee's recent amendment allows hospitals to fill budgeted positions, potentially addressing staffing gaps. Rogobete estimates that around 10,000 positions could be filled, but warns that the overall shortage remains significant, with needs exceeding 26,000. He stresses the urgency of lifting the freeze, especially in emergency hospitals, to improve operations.
