During World War II, a bizarre plan involving bats as incendiary weapons led to an accidental fire at a U.S. military base. The idea originated from a Pennsylvania dentist, Lytle S. Adams, who proposed using bats to deliver incendiary devices to Japanese cities. The project, initially approved, involved equipping bats with explosives and testing them in a simulated Japanese village. However, during a test, the bats escaped and caused a fire at the military base. Although the project was not immediately canceled, it was eventually abandoned in favor of the atomic bomb due to resource allocation. This incident remains one of the strangest military experiments of the war.
