A new national program aims to install elevators in residential buildings with three or more floors, starting with a pilot project involving 100 buildings. Local authorities can finance the installation through various funding sources, including European funds and local budgets. The program is designed to enhance accessibility in condominiums, especially those without existing elevators. The pilot phase will target two buildings in each county, addressing the needs of 3.5 million Romanians living in elevator-less blocks. Estimated costs for external elevators are around 50,000 euros per staircase.
