Prosecutors in Bihor are reopening a tax evasion case involving Florin Panea, following a ruling from the CJEU that affects the statute of limitations. The case, originally handled by DIICOT since 2015, was sent to court in 2024 but was returned for further financial expertise. A recent CJEU decision clarified that serious fraud cases impacting EU financial interests are not subject to the same limitations, allowing the investigation to continue. As a result, prosecutors have resumed their inquiry and ordered a financial audit.
