A recent study indicates that electric vehicles (EVs) are twice as likely to experience tire issues compared to combustion engine cars. Analyzing 47 million MOT tests in the UK, the research highlights that the weight of EV batteries and the instant torque from electric motors exert more pressure on tires. Owners of EVs may face higher costs for tire repairs and replacements. Older EV models show more tire defects, particularly due to braking. However, newer models perform better in terms of tire wear. Despite these challenges, EVs have advantages, including lower defect rates in suspension and brakes compared to traditional vehicles.
