New York City will ban the use of artificial intelligence in public schools for students up to high school, allowing it only in specific contexts starting in high school. Teachers can still use AI for lesson preparation. The decision follows concerns from parents and educators about previous lenient guidelines. A working group will be established to develop a comprehensive policy on AI in schools by April 2027.
