Primele semnale radio detectate direct de la o exoplanetă
For the first time, scientists have detected radio signals from the exoplanet β Pictoris b, revealing its strong magnetic field. The signals are linked to auroras caused by high-energy particles interacting with the planet's atmosphere. A team led by Kevin Ortiz Ceballos used the MeerKAT telescope to pinpoint the source of the signals, confirming they originated from the planet rather than its star. This discovery provides insights into the planet's magnetic field strength, measured at over 1,250 gauss, surpassing Jupiter's magnetic intensity. The findings align with theoretical predictions about young, massive gas giants and offer a new method for studying exoplanetary magnetic fields.
