Primele indicii genetice semnificative pentru tulburarea de personalitate borderline

A recent study has identified genetic variants linked to borderline personality disorder (BPD), paving the way for further research into its biological mechanisms. This comprehensive genome-wide association study (GWAS) revealed 11 genomic regions associated with BPD, including nine relevant functional genes. Analyzing data from over 12,300 diagnosed individuals and more than a million controls, the findings were validated in an independent cohort of nearly 108,500 participants. While genetic factors account for about 17% of the hereditary risk, environmental influences remain crucial. The research also highlighted genetic overlaps with other mental health conditions, particularly PTSD. However, the findings do not yet allow for individual risk assessment based on genetic profiles.
