A fire at a waste sorting station in Rusciori released significant smoke, prompting air quality monitoring by the Sibiu County Environmental Directorate. Initial data showed elevated PM10 levels near the fire site compared to a nearby monitoring station. The highest recorded PM10 value was 87.57 µg/m³, exceeding the legal limit of 50 µg/m³. Other pollutants, including nitrogen dioxide and nitrogen oxides, were also measured. Continuous air quality monitoring will occur until the fire is fully extinguished and for at least 48 hours afterward. Firefighters remain on-site to manage the situation.
