The mayor of Bucharest, Ciprian Ciucu, has called for the insolvency of the Bucharest Transport Company (STB) to address its financial crisis. He emphasized that this step is necessary to save the company from its accumulated debts and penalties, which have reached alarming levels. Ciucu pointed out that STB has been in a state of undeclared insolvency since 2020, with debts exceeding 1.7 billion lei. He identified mismanagement, political interference, and failure to pay employee contributions as key factors contributing to the financial disaster. Ciucu believes that declaring insolvency is the only viable solution to restructure STB and protect it from further penalties and creditor actions.
