The Sibiu City Hall plans to repay an outstanding loan of 70 million lei early, six years ahead of schedule. This loan, taken in 2007 for airport modernization, is the last remaining debt from seven loans totaling 300 million lei over 20 years. The early repayment is expected to save approximately 3.5 million lei in interest. Sibiu has seen a growing budget surplus in recent years, nearing 100 million euros at the start of this year.
