Alba Iulia plans to install energy storage batteries at 18 public sites, seeking nearly 30 million lei in funding. The initiative aims to enhance energy consumption from solar panels and reduce electricity costs and CO2 emissions. The project, approved by the local council, includes a total storage capacity of 16.15 MWh and is expected to absorb around 4,190 MWh of energy annually. The batteries will be connected to existing facilities for self-consumption, not for commercial energy sales. The municipality intends to submit the funding request immediately after the program opens.
