Primar din Ucraina arestat în România
Viktor Medvid, the mayor of Rakhiv, Ukraine, was arrested in Romania and extradited to Ukraine after being accused of embezzling funds and document forgery. He had been on the run since summer 2023, facing allegations of misappropriating 2.2 million hryvnias. Medvid's extradition was confirmed by the Romanian High Court, despite his claims of political persecution and lack of fair trial guarantees in Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities assured that he would not face torture or political motives in his prosecution. Medvid's legal troubles began when he allegedly diverted funds meant for a rehabilitation center renovation, pocketing a significant amount for personal use. He could face a prison sentence of 5 to 8 years if convicted.
