Initially, it attracted 45,000 visitors in its first year, despite being considered an unhealthy area. The local authorities, led by Mayor Ion Bănescu, sought to develop the area, leading to the establishment of the first bathhouse in 1906. This marked the official birth of Mamaia as a resort, featuring a unique pavilion that served as both a bathhouse and a train station. The inauguration was celebrated with a grand event attended by ministers and local dignitaries, highlighting the area's potential for tourism. The resort quickly gained popularity, with visitors traveling by train to enjoy the beach and facilities. The first female entrepreneur, Ecaterina Nicolaescu, managed the baths, contributing to the resort's early success.
