Bucharest has introduced its first smart pedestrian crossing on Șoseaua Chitilei, designed to enhance safety for pedestrians. The system activates lights only when necessary, addressing the issue of drivers ignoring constantly flashing signals. It employs three detection methods to ensure lights turn on only when a pedestrian intends to cross. The dynamic visual signaling includes LED lights that activate in the presence of pedestrians, while an acoustic system aids visually impaired individuals. This pilot project aims to evaluate the technology's effectiveness in urban traffic and driver behavior.
