Bucharest has introduced its first smart pedestrian crossing on Chitilei Road, utilizing sensors to enhance pedestrian safety. The system activates signals only when it detects a pedestrian's intention to cross, aiming to improve driver response and safety at crossings. It features a three-layer detection mechanism, ensuring lights activate only when necessary. Additionally, the crossing includes acoustic signals and tactile markings for visually impaired individuals. The project will assess the system's performance in real traffic conditions and aims to prevent signal desensitization among drivers.
