Romania is set to establish its first tram-train network in Oradea by the end of 2026, following a successful bid for 14 electric vehicles. The project, which has a budget exceeding 461 million lei, aims to integrate regional trains into urban tram lines. The winning company, Stadler Polska, will deliver bidirectional vehicles with dual access. This initiative is part of a larger investment of approximately 1.43 billion lei funded by the EU, which includes infrastructure upgrades and extensions to the tram network. The tram-train concept originated in Germany over 35 years ago and has been successfully implemented in various European cities.
