Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu clarified that the recent visit of US Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle to Greece was a private business event, not a negotiation with Romania. She emphasized that the official representation of US interests in Romania is handled by Ambassador Darryl Nirenberg. Țoiu also highlighted Romania's commitment to the Vertical Corridor, aimed at reducing energy dependence on Russia and strengthening US engagement in the region. The Wall Street Journal reported that Guilfoyle suggested US involvement in the dismissal of a Romanian official during a dinner in Athens. PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu confirmed discussing Romania's transit role in the gas corridor with Guilfoyle.
