The first mention of Bucharest as a royal residence occurred 451 years ago in 1465, through a document issued by Radu the Handsome. This act established Bucharest as a "seat of power," six years after Vlad the Impaler's initial reference to the city. While Vlad's 1459 document is widely recognized, Radu's 1465 hrisov is less known but crucial for Bucharest's history. It granted tax exemptions for certain goods transported for the Monastery of Cozia. Radu's reign marked the beginning of Bucharest's rise as a significant capital alongside Târgoviște, eventually leading to its permanent status as the capital of Wallachia in 1659. Radu was also the father-in-law of Stephen the Great, linking the two historical figures.
