Turkey's first nuclear power plant reactor is undergoing intensive testing and will soon be operational, according to Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar. The Akkuyu plant, built by Russia's Rosatom, is expected to cover about 10% of Turkey's electricity needs. President Erdogan has announced plans for additional nuclear plants to reduce energy import dependence. A nuclear waste storage facility is also planned near Ankara by 2035. Turkey aims to develop over 20 GW of nuclear capacity by 2050, with further plants planned along the Black Sea and in Thrace.
