Just one day after a 25% reduction in diesel fuel excise, Rompetrol and MOL raised fuel prices on September 2. OMV Petrom also increased gasoline prices despite a previous decrease. The price hikes are attributed to rising international oil product prices, with diesel reaching record levels. Currently, standard diesel costs 10.18 lei at Rompetrol and 10.14 lei at MOL, while gasoline is priced at 9.59 lei at Rompetrol and 9.55 lei at OMV Petrom. The Ministry of Finance cannot further reduce excise taxes due to legal limits. Market tensions are exacerbated by geopolitical conflicts and Russia's diesel export ban, leading to unprecedented price differences in Europe.
