President Nicuşor Dan has enacted a law allowing for the doubling of bears to be culled in 2026 and 2027, addressing increasing bear attacks. The law permits immediate intervention against bear attacks and sets quotas of nearly 900 bears for prevention and 110 for intervention. After a constitutional challenge was rejected, the law was approved by the Chamber of Deputies with a significant majority. The changes are based on technical studies and genetic analysis to manage bear populations effectively.
