Nicușor Dan has signed the decree to promulgate a law allowing modifications to protected natural areas, despite previous attempts to oppose it. The law facilitates the construction of new hydropower plants on these lands. It grants exemptions for projects approved before June 29, 2007, enabling work to commence. The president argued that the law, dating back to 2021, is outdated given the current economic context. Initially proposed in 2022 during the Ciucă government, the law faced delays before reaching the president's desk. It was initiated by several PSD parliamentarians and will soon come into effect.
