The European Commission is seeking projects that exemplify nature protection in Europe, with Romania having submitted few applications in previous editions. Organizations, authorities, companies, landowners, educational institutions, and individuals involved in biodiversity conservation can apply for the eighth edition of the European Natura 2000 Award until October 16, 2026. The award recognizes achievements in managing and protecting Natura 2000 sites and initiatives benefiting local communities. Eligible candidates must be based in the EU and projects should be linked to Natura 2000 sites, showing concrete results from the last five years. Special encouragement is given to applications from Romania and other countries with low participation. The competition includes five categories, with a new category for urban initiatives.
