Prime Minister Luca Niculescu provided a vague response regarding the reform of the Pillar II pension system, which previous PSD governments attempted to nationalize. He stated that, in principle, the private pension pillar should remain unchanged but admitted he has not yet analyzed the topic in detail. The Pillar II currently manages savings for over 8.5 million Romanians, totaling approximately 243.4 billion lei. Past initiatives aimed at nationalizing or dismantling this system have raised concerns about its future. The government faces fiscal challenges, and redirecting contributions to the public pension system could provide short-term revenue but would diminish individual savings. Recent changes to the private pension system have also sparked dissatisfaction among participants.
