The first tunnel drilled on a highway in Romania has been completed on the Sibiu-Pitești Highway, section 4. The Curtea de Argeș tunnel is 1.35 kilometers long and was finished six months ahead of schedule. Testing of the tunnel's systems will follow, with traffic expected to open in October. The project faced challenging terrain, requiring stabilization work. It includes 12 bridges, a road junction, and significant amounts of concrete and earth excavation. Environmental approvals for mountain sections are also anticipated in October, marking a key administrative milestone for the project, aiming for highway connectivity between Romania's historical provinces by 2030.
