SN Nuclearelectrica SA announced that Unit 2 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant will be shut down due to extremely low Danube water levels, expected on July 29 or 30, 2026. This decision follows similar actions taken for Unit 1, driven by severe drought conditions. The shutdown aims to ensure nuclear safety and operational reliability. Despite the shutdown, electricity supply for consumers will remain unaffected. This marks the first instance in history where both units at Cernavodă are halted due to low river flow.
