Premieră în astronomie: două supernove provenite din același sistem stelar, identificate de cercetători

An international team of researchers has discovered evidence of two massive stars in a binary system exploding as supernovae, leaving observable nebulae. This finding, based on over 16 years of data from NASA's Fermi Space Telescope, enhances our understanding of massive star evolution. The study reveals that both stars ended their lives in supernova explosions, creating the Jellyfish Nebula and another nebula, G189.6+3.3. The two remnants are located about 6,000 light-years from Earth in the Gemini constellation, with an estimated time gap of 20,000 to 110,000 years between the explosions. This research provides rare observational evidence of the life cycle of massive binary star systems.
